What is MonkeyLit?
MonkeyLit is a growing archive of experimental short fiction and their conceptualization.
Who am I?
Author of four novels, at least two of which are arguably experimental (world rights are available *wink *wink), I am an avid admirer of experimental fiction and basically anything that breaks the ordinary reading experience.
Why should you subscribe?
Isn’t it exciting to wait for the test tubes to explode in a laboratory? This is the same, except the test tubes are short stories and the explosions only hurt my literary dignity.
Where to start?
My personal recommendations for anyone who’d like to get into the world of experimental fiction, without any specific order or criteria except my instincts at the moment of typing:
B.S. Johnson, Christie Malry’s Own Double-Entry
Ann Quin, Berg
Svetislav Basara, The Cyclist Conspiracy
Thalia Field, Experimental Animals
Mark Dunn, Ella Minnow Pea
Of course, I am skipping some modern classics (Pale Fire or A Void or If On a Winter’s Night a Traveler), some cult classics (House of Leaves or The Raw Shark Texts), and some niche examples, which are my favorites (Christine Brooke-Rose’s Out or Fran Ross’ Oreo). You can follow my very secret Goodreads account if you’d like to see what I’m up to.
